Fixing the World at the U.S. Social Forum
Sergio Castaneda said: It's no secret that today's progressives are experiencing a churning set of not-so-lovely emotions, ranging from frustration to anger to grief. After eight years of George W. Bush, many of us expected the country and the world to be in a very different place now. But 18 months into Obama's term, we've seen many of the most catastrophic policies of the Bush administration continued and retooled, and the collective weight of this not-change has put many in a pretty bad mood. Many--myself included--are yearning for a little jolt.
Israeli ministers likely to demand probe of Gaza flotilla raid: Netanyahu convenes political-security cabinet; senior ministers fume after Gaza flotilla operation goes ahead without their approval.
John Dunlevy said: "Senior ministers have noted that, in contrast to the handling of similar incidents in the past, the inner cabinet did not discuss issues related to the flotilla, receive operational briefings or approve the operation. The forum of seven, which did consider and approve the plan, is a consultative body only and does not have the legal authority to pass resolutions."
Israel needs national inquiry into deadly Gaza flotilla clashes
John Dunlevy said: "The government failed the test of results; blaming the organizers of the flotilla for causing the deaths by ignoring Israel's orders to turn back is inadequate. Decisions taken by the responsible authorities must be probed."
