Bio
I am Director of Community Engagement for Allbritton Communications in Arlington, VA. I have been in the news business 38 years, starting at the Shenandoah Evening Sentinel when I was in high school. I have been an editor, writer and writing coach at the Cedar Rapids Gazette, Des Moines Register, Kansas City Star and Times, Minot Daily News and Omaha World-Herald. I spent three years at the American Press Institute, training journalists and newspaper executives in innovation, leadership, ethics and storytelling. I have trained and consulted in newsrooms, conferences and seminars in 43 states, eight Canadian provinces, Russia, Mexico, Japan, Germany, Saudi Arabia and Ecuador.
