Biography
Mary Spicuzza is a reporter at the Wisconsin State Journal. A writer, journalist and documentary filmmaker, Spicuzza's work has been featured in numerous publications, including The New York Times, The Seattle Times, PBS Frontline/World, St. Petersburg Times and others.
She has been honored with awards from Investigative Reporters & Editors, The Overseas Press Club, the Florida Press Club, the Society of Professional Journalists, the Press Club of the East Bay, Peninsula Press Club and a Foreign Language and Area Studies Fellowship. Her story “Enter the Dragon Head” was awarded a Prevention for a Safer Society (PASS) Award from the National Council on Crime and Delinquency.
She also traveled throughout Sicily and mainland Italy to report on attempts to build the world’s longest suspension bridge for Frontline/World, and was named a Livingston Awards for Young Journalists finalist for that project. With her friend Claudine LoMonaco, she produced the documentary film Matias about the life and death of a Mexican migrant worker. A version of their film was featured by PBS Frontline/World, titled "A Death in the Desert." She currently reports on financial crime for AssetRecoveryWatch.com while freelancing for other news organizations and documentary projects.
