Editorial Standards

Publish2 provides a free service for journalism. Our mission is to help journalism survive and thrive in the digital age, by providing a free collaborative platform to share the best of the Web with your readers.

We believe in the power of the press in all shapes and sizes. All journalists and news organizations are welcome, whether they publish in the form of a daily newspaper, a blog, a microblog, an e-mail newsletter, or a healthy combination of photocopier, stapler, and snail mail.

To be eligible for a free Publish2 account for journalism, you’ll need to meet the following criteria:

  • Maintain editorial independence from governmental, commercial, or special interests, and do not engage in public relations, marketing and lobbying.
  • Do not plagiarize.
  • Do not trade coverage or favored treatment for money, gifts, or favors.
  • Clearly disclose any conflicts of interest.
  • Clearly differentiate paid placements, advertisements, and press releases from editorial content.
  • Adhere to — and preferably make publicly available — a set of editorial standards or an editorial code of ethics.
  • Be accessible and accountable to the public.
  • Be accurate and honest.
  • As always, our editorial standards are a working draft; we welcome input from the journalism community.
